Fall has arrived: Previewing the events in Palmyra, Cinnaminson and Delran

Palmyra, Cinnaminson and Delran heading into fall loaded with fun events to attend

Fall soon will arrive. Starting Monday, Sept. 23, the Garden State will begin its transformation. From the green leaves hanging from the branches of the trees to the colorful pile waiting to get raked up and put into bags, residents will trade in their long, hot summer days and swimming trunks for jeans and hoodies to combat the chilly nights, but most of all, residents of Palmyra, Cinnaminson and Delran will head into fall loaded with fun events to attend.

Cinnaminson Day

Celebrate Cinnaminson on Sept. 29 at Wood Park from noon to 3 p.m. For the last 20 years, the township has coordinated Cinnaminson Day to celebrate the community and the history of Cinnaminson. In fact, at the time of the inaugural event, the township leaders had the idea to showcase the business community through this event

“While Cinnaminson Day has grown over the years, our business community continues to be a major part of the event,” said Township Clerk Eric Schubiger. “The township views Cinnaminson Day as a great way to bring together residents, businesses and community groups to celebrate Cinnaminson Township. We’re looking forward to everyone having an enjoyable afternoon with family, friends and neighbors at Wood Park.”

Over the years, the event has grown exponentially. This year, under the leadership and support of Mayor Ernest McGill and the township committee, organizers have included additional children’s activities and more live music. This will be highlighted by Jobonanno and the Godsons of Soul “Asbury Review.” Those interested in participating in Cinnaminson Day can contact Patricia Rucci at (856) 829-6000, est. 2313.

Paint the Town Pink

This year, the Cinnaminson Fire Department will host a series of family events to raise funds to support breast cancer patients as well as an education fund for paramedics and EMTs in honor of paramedic Becky Scott. The first event will kick off on Sept. 21 for Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Station 201 located at 1725 Cinnaminson Ave. The event will feature a flag raising ceremony, a DJ, face painting, a balloon artist, games, safety presentations and more.

On Sept. 26, the department will be hosting an event at Jersey Mike’s on Route 130. From the residents who come out for either lunch or dinner, 25 percent will be donated to the fund. The fire department will also continue to paint the town pink at Cinnaminson Day and at the Sweetwater Bar & Grill Dine & Donate event on Oct. 17 between noon and 8 p.m. For more information on these events, follow the Cinnaminson Fire Department on Facebook or contact the station at (856) 829-5220.

Delran High School Homecoming Parade Oct. 19

Homecoming week is a competition between the high school grades. There is a general theme of the week, and each grade picks something related to that theme. There are competitions each day, and the goal is to get the most points and win the spirit stick. During the week, students meet late into the night to build floats and organize a skit that relates to their theme.

On Saturday, the parade goes from Wright Way to Delran High School. At the high school, each grade performs its skit in front of the other grades, the community and friends.

“Homecoming consumes not only the students, but the community as a whole,” said Councilman Tyler Burrell. ”It is hard to explain unless you experience it firsthand. It is truly remarkable. The homecoming spirit runs in the blood of Delran alumni, so much so that many make it a tradition to come back each and every year.”

Delran’s Trunk or Treat

Delran’s Trunk or Treat will be held Oct. 26. The event is free for residents and located at Community Park. Each car is decorated and brings a bag of candy for the children. Kids can go from car to car or trunk to trunk to get candy. The event will also have a costume parade and a DJ, and give out awards for best costumes and best car. More information will be provided on the township’s website as the event gets closer.

Palmyra Halloween Parade Oct. 30

The Palmyra Halloween Parade is an annual event that is a staple in the community. According to Councilwoman Mindie Weiner, the event has happened for years, and each year the Halloween Parade Committee strives to get bigger and better. The costumes, the entertainment and the community make the event a fun opportunity.

“It’s a wonderful town-wide community event,” said Weiner. “The parade starts in Riverton and comes down to Palmyra. It’s a lot of fun. We raise money for the event through sponsorships and generous donations. Most of the entertainment actually comes from people in the town.”
