On Sept. 14, the Delran Business Association will be holding its 10th annual scholarship fundraiser. The golf tournament will be held at Golden Pheasant Golf Club located at 141 Country Club Drive in Lumberton.
“Last year, it was a beautiful day,” said Delran Business Association member Joseph Chascsa. “I’m not a golfer, but I did it anyway, and walking the course while talking to your buddies, it’s such a great time. Even afterwards when all the players are in one spot having dinner, it’s great camaraderie and it’s great to see everyone have a good time and talk about the day.
“We try to do community events like the golf outing for our scholarship program in May,” Chascsa continued. “We generally select two sudents from either Delran or Holy Cross and we will give them a $1,000 scholarship. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the community to a few students in Delran.”
According to Chascsa, the organization selects the scholarship winners by accepting applications. The business association contacts school guidance counselors to get the word out, and from there, students fill out an application. A member of the organization who is not from Delran selects students based on academics, community engagement and their entrepreneurial spirit.
“The golf outing is currently the only fundraiser that we do for the scholarship, but we’re looking to change that,” said Chascsa. We want to get more involved with the community, and in our next meeting in September, we’re going to talk about new ideas to give back to the community. We also want to raise awareness about the organization.
“I would say there are people that may not know about the Delran Business Association, and that’s something we need to change,” Chascsa continued. “We need to get out there more and raise more awareness of what we do. There’s a lot of good people here, and we want to give back. Maybe we will even inspire other people to give back as well.”
For those who want to attend the golf outing, prices are $125 for individuals and $400 for foursomes. To be a hole sponsor will be $100, and to be a tourney sponsor will be $750. Registration begins at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at 11:30, a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. and a dinner reception at the end of the night.
Registration and payment can be mailed to DBA, PO Box 1404, Delran, NJ 08075 or dropped off at Sciacca’s Upholstering located at 1812 Underwood Blvd. in Delran. Registration must be received by Sept. 7 to guarantee entry, and checks can be made out to the Delran Business Association. Range balls are available along with raffles and prizes.
