At the Cinnaminson Township Committee meeting on Monday, July 15, Mayor Ernest McGill and the rest of the committee discussed affordable housing, pedestrian road safety, Route 130 and Andover Road’s traffic lights and more. Many residents also spoke during the public comment section about flooding issues and other environmental concerns.

Affordable housing ordinances included one to amend development fees to provide for the collection of development fees in support of affordable housing as permitted by the New Jersey Fair Housing Act.

Amended the township code entitled “Affordable housing.” The third discussed amending and replacing Chapter 145 affordable housing sections 1 through 12 to address the requirements of the New Jersey Fair Housing Act and the Uniform Housing Affordability Controls. This ordinance was regarding compliance with the township’s affordable housing obligations.

These ordinances simply required to the township to comply with the required text. Ordinance 2019-10 requires that the township of Cinnaminson shall not spend on development fees until the court has ruled on a approved plan.

After the discussion about affordable housing, the committee moved on to resolutions to accept grants, such as a Clean Committee grant, an Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation grant and a Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over grant. The Clean Committee grant was for $36,368.90, the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation grant was for $3,536.49 and the Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over grant was for 5,280.

Additional resolutions consisted of certifying completion of a 2015-2016 Park Development grant, liens for DPW work, extending a road materials contract with R.E. Pierson, collecting taxes and authorizing submission of an application of NJDOT fiscal year 2020 state aid program.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the township committee opened the floor for public comments. Approximately 10 residents went to the podium to voice their concerns.

Most of the residents spoke out about the flooding issues that have caused their houses to be constantly pumped, as well as other environmental concerns, such as the need for an environmental committee. Some residents called out the committee’s lack of environmental knowledge and lack of concern for their properties.

Contact information was exchanged with the township to address these issues.

The Cinnaminson Township Committee will be holding its next meeting on Monday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cinnaminson Municipal Building at 1621 Riverton Road.
