GCIT has another successful year at SkillsUSA competition

The Deptford school won the Models of Excellence award for the fifth consecutive year and eight students brought home medals.

GCIT SkillsUSA Chapter was honored for the fifth year in a row for receiving the Models of Excellence award and brought home eight medals from the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference, which took place in Louisville, Ky. from June 24 through June 29.

Ryan Oliver earned a gold medal for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC), a full scholarship to continue his education in his career pathway and $15,000 worth of trade-related tools to get him started in industry. Kaitlin Deal, Jasmin Anderson-Berzley, Samantha Baldacci, Carleigh Cusick, Marissa Rosas, and Kathryn Ryan received silver medals in the chapter business

procedure team competition, which they have medaled in consecutively for five years. As a first year member of SkillsUSA, Shubh Karakiya, competed in extemporaneous speaking category and he received a silver medal and a full tuition scholarship for Sullivan University.

As one of only two schools in the United States, the GCIT Chapter, earned Models of Excellence award for the fifth year in a row. It is the highest level of the SkillsUSA Chapter Excellence Program Models of Excellence, celebrates the top 24 SkillsUSA chapters nationally. More than 18,000 local chapters in 53 state and territorial associations have the opportunity to compete.
