Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle on Sicklerville Road Tuesday night

Gloucester Township Police arrested and charged a 66-year-old man from Franklinville for leaving the scene of the accident.

On Tuesday, July 9, at 8:16 p.m., Gloucester Township Police were dispatched to the 2000 Block of Sicklerville Road for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle suffering from serious injuries. Upon officer arrival, it was determined the striking vehicle had fled the scene and a pick up and hold was broadcast for the

suspect vehicle. Gloucester Township Fire Department, EMS and Virtua Paramedics arrived and assisted with rendering medical treatment to the pedestrian who was transported to Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township, where he passed away due to his injuries. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office later identified the victim as 18-year-old Trohkeem Brantley of Sicklerville in Gloucester Township.

The Gloucester Township Serious Crash Investigation Team, Investigations Bureau Detectives and Camden County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene to conduct an investigation regarding the crash. As officers were following up with leads and tips provided by witnesses and the public as to the cause of the crash and suspect vehicle identity, the driver of the vehicle turned himself in to Gloucester Township Police Headquarters. The vehicle used in the fatal hit and run was recovered by police.

Sicklerville Road was closed for approximately four hours during the initial investigation of the crash. The driver, a 66-year-old man from Franklinville, was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, a second degree crime. He was released pending his next court appearance in accordance with bail reform guidelines.
