A family was displaced over the weekend following a fire at a home in the Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township.
On Saturday, July 6, at approximately 4:26 p.m., Gloucester Township Police responded to the 100 block of Breckenridge Drive in the Sicklerville section for a reported active dwelling fire.
As officers were arriving on scene, they observed fire spearheading across the rear of the residence and onto the roof of the dwelling. Officers then escorted the homeowner away from the residence from the garage area. The
Gloucester Township fire departments; Pine Hill Fire Department and Winslow Fire Department arrived and observed smoke and fire coming from the area of the rear of the residence. Additional arriving police units verified the residence was evacuated and closed off Breckenridge Drive for about an hour while the fire departments extinguished the fire. Gloucester Township EMS also responded to the scene to assist, however there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
At this time it is believed the cause of the fire is non-suspicious, but is still under investigation by the Station 86 fire marshal. As a result of damage sustained to the residence, a family of four was displaced.
Gloucester Township Office of Emergency Management responded to provide temporary shelter from the elements and assist the displaced residents with finding temporary housing and coordinating with the Red Cross.
