Mt. Laurel MUA completes water main replacement project on York Road

The project replaced 1200 feet of water main, installed new water connections for 22 homes and repaved the entire roadway from curb to curb.

The Mt. Laurel Municipal Utilities Authority has announced the completion of the water main replacement project on York Road.

Pavement restoration took place this spring, thereby finalizing the $313,000 project.

This area was one of many targeted for rehabilitation or replacement in the short term.

“Timing of the replacement was determined by using our Asset Management Program,” MUA Executive Director Pamela Carolan said.

This past fall the MUA contracted with Pioneer Pipe Contractors, Inc. of Pitman to replace 1200 feet of water main, install new water connections for 22 homes and repave the entire roadway from curb to curb.

The existing cast iron pipe (CIP) water main was replaced with cement lined ductile iron pipe (CLDIP) including cathodic protection to prolong the life of the new piping to more than 100 years.

The MUA also repaired a section of Mt. Laurel Township’s underdrain system during this project.

“Including the underdrain repair and roadway paving while the MUA was performing the water main work saved Mt. Laurel Township more than $50,000,” MUA Chairwoman Cheryl Coco-Capri said.

The MUA continues to use funds from its Capital Improvement Budget to target and rehabilitate or replace infrastructure throughout the town.

The next scheduled water main replacement will take place during the upcoming fall on Saint David Drive.
