Forest fire is now 100% contained, route 206 now opened

Officials say that no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered from the forest fire at Wharton State Forest in Shamong.

The following is file with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service:

On June 9, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service responded to a wildfire, now known as the Jack’s Swamp Fire, in the Atsion section of Wharton State Forest.

The fire consumed 1,800 acres of forest and has been brought to 100 percent containment as of 10 a.m. on Monday, June 10. No structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.

At this time the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Route 206 was closed from early evening and throughout the night, but has since reopened. In addition, the Atsion Recreation Area has also reopened.
