On Saturday, May 25, Green Team members Bill Curzie and Al Carp manned an informational table at the Burlington Agricultural Center Farmers Market to alert the residents of Burlington County that the  Spotted Lanternfly has made it into the area.

According to the Green Team, the Spotted Lanternfly was confirmed in Palmyra and the new invasive species will be in Delran and Moorestown very shortly, however,  the Burlington Agricultural Center Farmers Market was the perfect location to show their display of the insect.

“The vial containing two adult flies were a big hit,” said Carp. “People couldn’t believe how beautiful it is. We explained that beauty is in the eye of the beholder because when we told them about how destructive this creature is, they agreed we must put a stop to the invasion.”

“We instructed them to report any sightings and then kill it. Hopefully, we can slow the invasion until a prevention can be found. It will be devastating to the fruits and lumber industries until that time.”

For those looking for more information about the invasive species, residents can go on the following website to find out more https://njaes.rutgers.edu/spotted-lanternfly.
