Letter to the Editor: Build your wealth, self-discipline

Natalie Mele wrote to The Sun offering financial advice to Clearview Regional seniors.

The best things I ever did shortly after graduating were this:

No. 1: Save half of your paycheck every time; set up direct transfers so you never see it.

No. 2: Invest three-quarters of those savings long-term (mutual funds, etc) and one-quarter short-term (savings account).

No. 3: Use a credit card to build credit, but pay it off every month.

These three rules helped me to build wealth and self-discipline in my 20’s when I had the least responsibility so that I could have way more options than my 30-something counterparts. The choices you make now, both good and bad, will compound in your future.

All the best!
