Cherry Hill sisters recognized in vocal competition

Hal Leonard, the world’s largest educational music publisher, hosts an annual vocal singing competition to encourage young singers. Thousands of singers from all over North America sent in video entries, competing in four age-based categories. For 2019, Sarah Cohen and Hannah Cohen, two Cherry Hill sisters, were recognized as winners.

Sarah Cohen (age 12) tied for second place in the early Children’s Voice Art Songs. Sarah is a sixth grader at Rosa International Middle School where she also participates in chorus, orchestra, drama, cross-country and track. She also swims year-round competitively for the Jersey Wahoos and in the summer for the Woodcrest Swim Club.  Her winning submission can be heard at https://www.halleonard.com/vocalcomp/2019index.jsp.

Sarah’s older sister, Hannah Cohen (age 15), received an Honorary Mention for her Early Teen Voices – Art Songs submission.  Hannah, a sophomore at Cherry Hill East, was named soprano 1 section First Chair for the All South Jersey Senior High Chorus this year. Last year, she was recognized as the soprano 1 First Chair for the All South Jersey Jr High Chorus. Hannah was also selected to be a member of the New Jersey All State Mix Chorus for 2019. This past year Hannah sang in the Cherry Hill East Chansons school choir and next year will be a member of the Cherry Hill East “East Singers.”  When not singing, Hannah writes for Demogorgon the school’s literary art magazine and participates in Certamen, the school’s Latin Competition Team. Hannah’s winning submission can be heard at https://www.halleonard.com/vocalcomp/2019index.jsp.
