BTPD announce outcome of participation in 2019 Distracted Driving Enforcement and Education Campaign “U Drive, U Text, U Pay”

Public Safety Director Bruce Painter is pleased to announce that the Burlington Township Police Department recently participated in the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety 2019 Distracted Driving Enforcement and Education Campaign, “U Drive, U Text, U Pay”.

Between the dates of April 1, and April 21, officers dedicated 100 hours of targeted patrol time to this initiative on top of the normal departmental patrol shifts. During the detail period, officers conducted several hundred motor vehicle stops, resulting in the following:

Two alcohol related DWI arrests
One drug related DWI arrest
24 warrant arrests

41 cell phone violations
Seven speeding violations
Three reckless driving violations
16 careless driving violations
26 suspended license violations
22 seat belt violations
One child restraint violation
244 other violations

Director Painter credits all the men and women of the Burlington Township Police Department for making this initiative so successful and for making Burlington Township a safe community. Whereas the operational period for this initiative has ended, the Burlington Township Police Department remains committed to improving the safety of our roadways by aggressively enforcing distracted driving.
