Deadline approaches for Medford’s Junior Police Academy registration

The deadline for the week-long day camp, hosted by Medford's police department, is on May 17.

The Medford Township Police Department is again hosting a week-long Junior Police Academy day camp. The purpose of the academy is to provide young citizens with an introduction to law enforcement.

Our goal is to motivate young people to be outstanding citizens and empower them to act as a positive influence in the community. It also seeks to transform the traditional role of the police officer into a mentor and a friend, while encouraging young citizens to be partners in building safer schools and communities.

The academy will cover a multitude of topics to include but not limited to: the history of law enforcement, gangs, motor vehicle and criminal law, DWI enforcement, teens and drug/alcohol use, crime scene and evidence processing, Fire/EMS services, first aid and K9 units.

Qualifications and requirements include:

  • Must be a Medford Township resident
  • Must be entering the sixth, seventh or eighth grade in September, 2019
  • Must be recommended by a sponsor (police officer, school principal, guidance counselor, community representative, coach or religious leader)
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must be able to participate in physical fitness activities
  • Must be able to participate in a structured program
  • Have no criminal background

Space is limited. Completed applications must be turned into the police department in person by the deadline of May 17 at 4:30 p.m.
