Iowa-based scientist Josh Denhart hopes to bring excitement, joy and inspiration to attendees of all ages at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Denhart, who has degrees in chemistry and education, said he’s been doing the shows for 15 years throughout the country and hopes to bring “fire, explosions, foam and liquid nitrogen” to Mullica Hill.

He added he got into science after shadowing his father, who was a veterinarian, during office visits and exploring the profession with him. He later obtained degrees in college and taught high school chemistry for a number of years.

Kids love to come up to be chosen as a volunteer and participate in the show with me,” said Denhart. “It’s all set to music and very interactive and fun. A lot of audience involvement and visuals. High-energy and fast-paced.”

He said he likes to get the kids involved in the experiments he does, and seeing their reactions makes each show worthwhile.

“The neat thing is that I’m doing a lot of fun science surprises,” he said. “Because I do those, that allows for the mind and heart to be open to the message I bring right after that.”

Following his shows, he said he gives a presentation “about Jesus in respect to the audience and the Bible,” which is a nod to his time serving as a pastor at a local church.

It’s unique how I can take my passion for the Periodic Table and Jesus and mend them together,” he said.

He added his shows aren’t just geared toward children because he’ll often have grandparents who’ve come to watch without their younger family members, and have been “equally amazed.”

I have a very unique opportunity to overwhelm by excellence and earn the right to be heard very quickly,” he said. “I want to make a significant connection to the audience as fast as I can. It’s my favorite thing to do.”

Following the hour-long show, families are given the opportunity to walk around and take part in the more than 100 hands-on, child-safe science experiments during “The Family Experience” featuring rockets, magnets, electricity, magnification and slime to name a few.

I would say that it’s an entertaining event that’s just not entertainment,” said Denhart. “It is an event worthy of inviting friends and family who might not attend a regular church event. Be prepared to have fun, laugh and be inspired.”
