Clearview Regional adopts budget, tax increase to come

At the April 25 Clearview Regional Board of Education meeting, board members adopted the 2019-2020 budget. It calls for an increase in regional district taxes to both Harrison and Mantua.

The public hearing for the budget was held and no comments were made by the public or the board.

In Harrison Township, the budget calls for a 1.2-cent tax rate increase per $100 of assessed value. For the owner of a home assessed at the average value of $342,650, this equates to roughly a $41.12 annual increase.

In Mantua Township, taxes are to go up .83 cents per $100 of assessed home value. The owner of a home assessed at the average value of $205,513 can expect to see a $17.06 annual increase in the regional school taxes.

The budget total remains the same at $40,729,605.

Business Administrator Esther Pennell said the district is going into its capital reserves to pay for the resurfacing of the track, replace kitchen cabinets and counters in “HS 714” and perform required maintenance in the two schools.

She went on to add increases in health insurance rates (5 percent), cost of paying for charter school students ($21,240), necessary equipment and other means caused the appropriations to rise.

A user-friendly version of the budget is available on the district’s website at ClearviewRegional.edu under “Administration.”
