The United Way of Gloucester County  will honor its volunteers at its annual Volunteer Leadership Event on Wednesday, May 15 at 6 p.m. at Auletto Caterers in Deptford.

The highest honor, the Volunteer Leadership Award, will be presented to Lisa Carney. Lisa has resided in Gloucester County with her family since 1989 and has been involved in community service in the area since 1992, which is about the time she became involved with the allocations panel at the UWGC and has served ever since. Lisa’s insurance agency, Lisa Carney Retail Agency, is also a member of the Live United 365 Small Business Circle. Lisa helped grow this initiative by inviting other local businesses to join.

Two individuals will be honored with the Spirit of United Way Awards: Mike D’Alonzo and Robert “Bob” McErlane. Mike D’Alonzo served as a Loaned Executive on behalf of his company, Coperion, three separate times, most recently during the 2018 campaign when the United Way was short-handed on assistance. Mike is also a member of the United Way Founders Society and has been for many years.

McErlane has been a Gloucester County employee since 2004, and he has been the purchasing coordinator at Gloucester County Vocational-Technical School/Gloucester County Special Services School District since 2015. He served as a Loaned Executive for the United Way of Gloucester County for a total of three campaigns. In 2014, he joined the Promoting Healthy Living Review Group and became a member of the Community Impact Cabinet in 2015.

Women United, an affinity group of United Way of Gloucester County, will present the Women United Award to Mary J. Schultes. Mary is a Staffing Specialist at Rowan University and has over 11 years of Human Resources experience. She has been a member of Women United since March 2015 and has served as Vice Chair. She also volunteers on the United Way of Gloucester County’s Event Committee.

The goal of the Volunteer Leadership Event is to make every volunteer and donor know how much they are appreciated and for them to be aware of how much of an impact they have made by supporting the United Way. The United Way of Gloucester County could not achieve its goals without the steadfast support of community members who Give, Advocate, and Volunteer.

The United Way of Gloucester County offers its sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all of the honorees and community advocates for their commitment to Building Better Lives in Gloucester County.
