Mantua MUA holding public hearing for sewer extension on May 21

Public notice from the Mantua Township Utilities Authority.

A public hearing will be held by the Mantua Township M.U.A. for the Barnsboro Sanitary Sewer Extension at the Mantua Township Municipal Building (401 Main Street, Mantua) on May 21 beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The hearing will include discussions of the authority’s intent to design and construct an environmental infrastructure project for extending Sanitary Sewer facilities along Barnsboro and Breakneck Roads.

The project proposes to construct a gravity collection system, duplex pumping station, and force main to serve existing properties along the roads. The proposed pump station will be located on 199 Breakneck Road.

The proposed system includes approximately 2,200 LF of 8-inch PVC sanitary sewer gravity main and 12 manholes. Service lateral stubs with clean outs will be constructed for each residence to make their connection. A new pumping station will be installed and provided with an HDPE force main which will extend from the pumping station along Barnsboro Road towards the Main Street intersection.

At the intersection, the force main will connect to the MTMUA’s existing sanitary collection system through an existing sleeve under Breakneck Road. Total proposed force main length is approximately 900 LF. The force main and sanitary main will be installed using both open cut and directional drill methods, depending on the location. Directional drill is generally utilized in order to minimize significant disturbance of the county roadway or where the proposed depth of the main makes traditional open cut methods cost prohibitive.

The construction of the improvements will be phased with appropriate traffic control measures utilized during the construction of each phase. Upon completion, the roadway will be restored in accordance with Gloucester County requirements.

The Mantua Township MUA is seeking funding through the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank (NJIB) for multiple sanitary sewer infrastructure projects. The estimated construction cost of this project is $1 million. Planning documents concerning this project are available for review at the Mantua Township MUA office (397 Main Street, Mantua).
