Mantua Township crime log, April 11 – 17

The following are on file at the Mantua Township Police Department.

April 11

  • Units responded to a minor crash in the parking lot of the Home Depot store.
  • Officers responded to a domestic dispute involving a 90-year-old male and his daughter.
  • Donovan and his K-9 partner, Boomer, assisted West Deptford Police at their middle school.
  • Officers responded to a crash on Glassboro Road in Wenonah.
  • Units responded to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife over the cleanliness of their house.
  • Layton responded to the Super Wawa for a dispute call. Further investigation revealed that one vehicle was involved with drug distribution. Two subjects were arrested, processed and released.

April 12

  • Units responded to a crash on Glassboro Road in the area of Lambs Road
  • Officers responded to a minor crash in the parking lot of the Chick-Fil-A. The owners decided to handle it amongst themselves.
  • Patrols responded to a subject that was not wanted at the property, but was trying to enter the house.  They left prior to our arrival.
  • Officers responded to a domestic dispute between a couple. The male half left prior to our arrival.
  • Officers responded to a crash on Lambs Road at Holly Avenue in which their air bags deployed and the occupants were reported to be trapped. The fire department responded to assist.
  • Units also responded to a three-vehicle crash on Berkley Road at the entrance to the Villages of Berkley. A few victims were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The fire department also responded to assist with this crash.
  • Officers assisted West Deptford Police with a domestic assault investigation.
  • Layton conducted a motor vehicle stop and arrested an occupant for possession of drugs.

April 13

  • Officers discovered several trash trucks ablaze at the public works parking lot.
  • Officers participated in both Mantua’s Little League opening day ceremonies and Sewell’s Little League opening day parade.
  • Units responded to a crash on Glassboro Road in which a vehicle struck a telephone pole and needed to be towed.
  • Officers conducted their monthly car seat safety event at the Mantua Fire Department in which specialty trained officers check car seats and instruct the parents on the proper installation procedure.
  • Officers also assisted with the township’s shred event at the Municipal Building.
  • Patrols responded to a crash on Harrison Avenue in the area of Cardinal Avenue.
  • Officers participated in the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Chestnut Branch Park.
  • Units responded to a shoplifting at the Rite Aid on Glassboro Road in which the subject fled in a vehicle towards Pitman. Pitman Police was able to stop the subject and he was arrested for stealing prepaid cell phones. He was processed and released.
  • Mroz conducted a motor vehicle stop and arrested the driver for driving while suspended. He was currently suspended for DUI, which carries enhanced penalties. He was processed and released.
  • Officers honored Ptl. Lipsett at the Mantua VFW for being officer of the year at their annual awards ceremony, which honors various first responders, teachers, citizens and children from the community.

April 14

  • Units received a report for a hit-and-run crash. Ptl. Hauss located the fleeing vehicle and arrested the operator for DUI.
  • Officers supervised community service workers who cleaned up litter on the roadway in the area of Jessup Mill Road at Schaub Road.
  • Units responded to a crash on Main Street in the area of Mantua Boulevard.
  • Patrols responded to a crash on Glassboro Road in the area of Lambs Road.
  • Units conducted community service patrols at Chestnut Branch Park during the afternoon hours.
  • Officers responded to a crash on Route 45 in the area of Planet Fitness in which one vehicle needed to be towed.
  • Officers took a harassment complaint in which a contractor was threatened by the homeowner over the price of the work to be done.

April 15

  • Units responded to a tree that had fallen onto Mantua Boulevard by Cape May Avenue and also by Delaware Valley Florist during the storm.
  • Patrols responded to wires that were down on Heritage Road.
  • Officers responded to a horse that was loose and running in the roadway. They were able to secure it back in the yard where it came from.
  • Officers took a theft report for construction equipment that was stolen from a work site on Main Street.
  • This week, officers conducted their semi-annual firearms qualifications.
  • Officers took a domestic report that had occurred at Rowan College of Gloucester County in which the victim wished to apply for a restraining order.
  • Units assisted a motorist who had locked their keys in their vehicle at the Timberline Shopping Center.
  • Officers took a report for a found wallet that was turned in to the Police Station.
  • Oldrati arrested a subject on an outstanding warrant from Camden City. He was processed and released.

April 16

  • Officers responded for wires that were down on Elm Avenue in Wenonah.
  • Officers taught D.A.R.E./L.E.A.D. at Wenonah Elementary School.
  • Units took a complaint for harassment.
  • Patrols responded along with the fire department to a brush fire at Chestnut Branch Park.
  • Officers took a report for a lost wallet along with all of its contents.
  • Officers took a theft report from the Lowe’s store.
  • Officers found a loose dog running in the Cold Springs Development.
  • Officers received a report for an abduction that had just occurred. Officers were able to detain the subjects and investigation revealed that it was family members attempting to get a loved one into rehab.
  • Units responded to a hit-and-run crash in which the vehicle fled after striking the vehicle. Ptl. Bair located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, however it fled and crashed in Deptford Township. Officers arrested two subjects and charged the driver with DUI, and both were charged with possession of drugs and related charges.
  • Officers responded to a juvenile that was having an inappropriate conversation on social media.
  • Mroz conducted a motor vehicle stop and arrested an occupant for an outstanding warrant. He was processed and turned over to the county jail.
  • Officers received a complaint of gunshots being heard in the area of the K-Mart store. Officers searched the area and spoke to several people, but could not locate anything.

April 17

  • Patrols responded to a large group making noise at the playground at White Oak Lane apartments. They were dispersed.
  • Units responded to a crash on Lambs Road by the railroad tracks where one vehicle needed to be towed.
  • Officers took a report for harassment where the victim was being harassed by his ex.
  • Officers responded to a water valve cap that was off in the roadway. Officers were able to put it back.
  • Units responded to a report of a male who had passed away.
  • Officers responded to a report of a young male that had run away from his house. He returned home a few hours later.
