Eastern Regional BOE honors track team members

During the meeting, the Director of Curriculum presented to the board changes to multiple positions, in title and responsibilities, within administration

The Eastern Regional Board of Education honored four girls from the school’s indoor track and field team before its most recent meeting.

Sprinters Noelle Scott, Jailya Ash, Jewel Ash and Abby Brocco were honored for being the 2019 Girls Shuttle Hurdles Group IV state champions for the second year in a row. The time the four girls put together was also the fastest time in the state. Jailya Ash was also honored as being the 55-meter dash state champion, while her sister Jewel Ash is also the 400-meter state champion.

In his superintendent’s report, Harold Melleby Jr. said that during March Eastern Regional had four reported HIB cases, with two being unfounded after further investigation.

Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development Robert Cloutier presented changes made to a few positions with Eastern Regional administration. The positions are not new, however responsibilities were shuffled around to better reflect Eastern’s goals, according to Cloutier.

The position Cloutier currently holds will be changing in name to director of academic programs and student performance.

“The reason we’re doing that is that, while the academic programs is still going to cover the responsibilities … the student performance is recognizing the importance of the integration of technology and student data, which includes PowerSchool and New Jersey Smart and our data systems that we have in place,” said Cloutier.

Cloutier also said increased collaboration between this position and the supervisor of technology will better reflect much of what Eastern has done over the past few years.

“A lot of these changes have been ongoing, so we’re putting them officially in these job responsibilities,” said Cloutier.

Meanwhile, larger changes will be made to the position of director of academic programs and student performance, who will now supervise the two members of the data processing team. Previously, the data processing team was under the supervision of the supervisor of technology and better fits ongoing changes within administration as the district continues to move forward.

“To go along with the work that we’ve been doing with the (District Advisory Committee), this position will also be very critical in helping the superintendent with the development and monitoring of the strategic plan,” Cloutier said.

Additional smaller changes were made to other positions at Eastern Regional, changing language to better reflect communication improvements with collaboration and technology.
