At its most recent meeting, the Deptford Board of Education discussed several topics, including issues to close out the school year and preparing for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.

The BOE approved 12 new hires, including five volunteers for the high school football coaches in the district for the 2019 season. Coaches will also serve as volunteer weight training coaches for the spring and summer.

Students who want to play a sport next season will find it easier to get their physicals processed after the board approved Monongahela Middle School nurse Veronica Snyder and Deptford High School nurse Kimberly Helfand to review and process sports physicals during the summer.

Superintendent Arthur Dietz explained how that adds convenience.

“Over the summer time, we have to process physicals and things like that. The nurse can’t do it during her normal time because a student may go get a physical at the end of June, but he wants to play sports in September, those physicals have to be processed over the summer,” said Dietz.

The board also approved the disposal of one Smart TV in Deptford High School and 48 monitors that no longer have educational value. The process will be done free of charge by Being Green, LLC.
