Home and craft show to provide residents with a one-stop shop for needs

If you go: The Gloucester County Craftsmen and Home Show is on May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gloucester County 4-H Fairgrounds. Handicapped parking is available, but space is limited. Prospective volunteers should contact organizer Kathy Wright at (856)-765-0118.

Nights are ending later, temperatures are rising and the flowers are starting to bloom, which means spring is in the air in Harrison Township. There are events occurring throughout the season to bask in the warmer weather.

The Gloucester County 4-H Fairgrounds (275 South Bridgeton Pike) will be filled with various craft vendors and D.I.Y. businesses for the ninth annual Gloucester County Craftsmen and Home Show on May 4. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but organizers are asking attendees to donate pet food or $1. Handicapped parking will be available, however, space is limited.

Families are welcome to stop by the fairgrounds and receive D.I.Y. tips and renovation ideas, purchase handmade items from crafters, dish out on foods like hot dogs and brick oven pizza, and participate in family-friendly activities.

In the event of heavy rain, the rain date is May 5, same time.

Shopping bags will be handed out by the carload to allow people to shop with ease. It is recommended to bring various forms of payment to purchase items.

The event is also dog-friendly, and owners are asked to bring dogs who don’t have behavioral or severe health issues and to also bring waste disposal bags. Dogs of any breed and age are able to participate in a dog show and parade around noon.

“People have so much to do in their backyards with the Harrison Township Day and this craft show happening at the same time,” said Kathy Wright, organizer. “We’re both free admission, so one show doesn’t overbear the other.”

Wright added she doesn’t see a competition with Harrison Township Day because the craft show occurs in the morning and is shopping-based, whereas the township’s celebration begins around noon and is “more for fun.”

Wright also said there will be a mini souvenir rock scavenger hunt occurring throughout the show where people can either keep, or turn in the collected rocks for a prize. She also said kids will be able to make magnets to take home.

“I think of these events as a gathering because you’ll see many people who know each other so well,” said Wright. “A lot of times, it’s the first time that some people are going to the fairgrounds for the first time.”

Based on previous years, she’s expecting up to 2,000 people to show up on May 4.

For those looking to volunteer with the dog show and parade, activity tables and to judge the Little Miss and Mister Springtime pageant (for kids between 4 and 8 who reside in South Jersey), Wright said they can call her office phone at (856)-765-0118 and leave a message regarding the opportunity.
