On March 28, at approximately 12:07 AM, multiple Gloucester Township Police Officers were dispatched to assist the New Jersey State Police with a Motor Vehicle Crash on the Atlantic City Expressway westbound near Exit 41.
While assisting with traffic control, an occupied marked Gloucester Township Police vehicle was struck in the rear by a vehicle traveling Westbound on the Atlantic City Expressway near mile marker 41. The police vehicle was stationary with its emergency lights activated. A Gloucester Township Police Officer was in the driver’s seat of the police vehicle at the time of the impact. The police vehicle sustained heavy damage, and the Officer was transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. The Officer is being treated for minor injuries as a precaution. The officer was wearing his seat belt, and the vehicle was positioned in a way which is believed to have kept the Officer from being seriously injured.
The driver of the striking vehicle was not injured, and was arrested for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated by the New Jersey State Police. The crash and arrest are being investigated by the New Jersey State Police.
The Officer’s name is not being released at this time.
