The Camden County Freeholder’s Division of Programming for Individuals with Disabilities and Special Needs, in cooperation with members of the Athletes with Disabilities Network, will be joining with former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen for an adaptive tennis clinic.

It is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 at Green Valley Racquet Club, 429 W. Crystal Lake Ave.

“We are honored to have former Flyer and current Camden County resident Kimmo Timonen volunteering his time and talents to offer this incredible opportunity to some very excited participants,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Ed McDonnell. “Adaptive sports clinics allow participants with disabilities to receive hands-on knowledge and understanding of the sport of their choice. In doing so they develop assurance and self-reliance, not only in learning a new skill, but in every other aspect of their lives.”

Timonen, who lives in the area, spent parts of eight NHL seasons with the Flyers. He won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015, and also garnered international recognition playing for his native Finland, winning silver in 2006 and bronze in 1998, 2010 and 2014.

The Camden County Division of Programming for Individuals with Disabilities and Special Needs offers a wide range of activities and programs throughout the year, including Miracle League Baseball, Adaptive Rowing, Therapeutic Horseback Riding and Special Olympic Swimming.
