Voorhees man charged with Manufacturing Child Pornography

Amitava Das is charged with allegedly soliciting explicit photographs from a 13-year-old female in the Philippines

Amitava Das, 45, of Voorhees, was charged with Manufacturing Child Pornography and Possession of Child Pornography, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Voorhees Police Chief Louis Bordi.

The Voorhees Township Police Department investigated a cybertip they received regarding suspicious internet activity from a social media account purportedly run by Das. He had allegedly been using a messenger application to solicit explicit photographs of a 13-year-old female in the Philippines.

Voorhees Township Police Department, assisted by Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Detectives from the High-Tech Crimes Unit (HTCU) and Members of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) — Cherry Hill Office, executed a search warrant on March 22, for Das’ residence in Voorhees. Authorities located numerous digital devices that were taken to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office’s HTCU Forensic Lab to be analyzed.

Das was arrested and transported to the Camden County Correctional Facility. Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order that he be detained without bail or released with conditions.

The Voorhees Police Department and the Lower Camden County Special Response Team (SRT) assisted the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office HTCU Detectives and HSI Cherry Hill on this case.

The investigation is ongoing. All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
