Mayor’s Message: Jobs available to assist with upcoming 2020 census

The United States Census Bureau is hiring both full-time and part-time workers in New Jersey

The United States Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people throughout New Jersey to assist with the 2020 census count. Available jobs begin this June and continue through November 2020.

They are seeking both full-time and part-time workers who are looking for a second job or students to work around class schedules. There are many available positions which offer flexible work hours, including daytime, evenings and weekends. There is also paid training and mileage reimbursement. Available jobs include recruiting assistants, office operations supervisors, administrative clerks, census field supervisors, area census office managers, census field managers, recruiting managers, assistant recruiting managers, information technology managers, administrative managers, office operations supervisors and more.

Every 10 years since 1790 the United States has undertaken the monumental task of counting the population. An accurate census count is very important as the data obtained is used to determine our state’s representation in Congress as well as determining spending of federal funds for schools, roads, hospitals and more. The first census was directed by Thomas Jefferson, then the Secretary of State, and counted the original 13 states and the districts of Kentucky, Maine, Vermont and the Southwest Territory (Tennessee). The 1790 record of population was 3,929,214. The population of the United States today is 328,570,832.

It will take about 20 minutes and you will need to provide your social security number, home address, email address, phone number and your date and place of birth. Depending on when you apply it may take several weeks before hiring begins. An interviewer will reach out to potential hires to conduct a phone interview. Once an offer has been extended, you must submit fingerprints and may be required to submit additional security documentation. **The Voorhees Business Association’s Annual Bowling Fundraiser will be on Friday, April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Big Event located in the Ellisburg Shopping Center, 1536 Kings Highway N. in Cherry Hill. This year, the event will benefit various community causes. Bowling lanes will be available for individuals and groups with a maximum of six bowlers per lane. For $20, an individual bowler will be teamed up with other bowlers. A $95 donation gets one lane for six bowlers and includes pizza and a pitcher of soda. For $100, a corporate sponsorship, the group gets one lane and signage. A $150 corporate sponsorship gets one lane with signage, bowling for up to six bowlers, a free pizza and a pitcher of soda. **J-Dogs Catering and Amusements will have their 3 Annual Open House on Sunday, April 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 413 Bloomfield Drive in West Berlin. The event is free and will showcase their new items for 2019. Families can enjoy bounces, slides, hot dogs, snacks, drinks and other giveaways. There will also be exclusive booking specials. **Camden County will be sponsoring a household hazardous waste collection program on April 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Collingswood Public Works Complex, 713 N. Atlantic Avenue in Collingswood. The County will also be conducting a recycling event for electronics on April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Lindenwold at the Camden County Public Works Complex.
