A woman you know and love may be affected by cardiovascular diseases — at any age. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined.

While nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular diseases continue to claim the lives of one in three women each year. That’s a third of mothers, sisters and friends.

As a husband, father and grandfather, I believe it’s time to change this fact. It’s time to be demanding when it comes to women’s heart health and make a commitment for the women we love.

By making a commitment to stand with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement, nationally sponsored by CVS Health, people everywhere are coming together to take action to end heart disease and stroke in women.

You can start by joining us at the Southern New Jersey Go Red for Women Luncheon on Friday, April 26 at the Mansion on Main Street in Voorhees.

As chair of the event, my goal is to have more women across the state make a commitment to their heart health. Simple steps like knowing your heart health risk, moving more, eating smart and managing your blood pressure can lower your risk for heart disease and stroke.

Together, we can prevent heart disease and stroke. It’s time to take action and Go Red for Women! For more information on the Southern New Jersey Go Red for Women Luncheon, visit southernnjgoredluncheon.heart.org.
