Hutchinson receives safety training award

The Associated Builders and Contractors’ Platinum Safety Training Evaluation Process Award serves as a safety benchmarking and improvement tool in which participants measure their safety processes and policies.

Hutchinson, a Cherry Hill based energy and mechanical services contractor, was recently presented with the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Platinum Safety Training Evaluation Process Award at the annual Excellence In Construction Conference and Expo held at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. The ABC’s STEP award recognizes companies that are on a continual road map to world-class safety performance.

“We are honored to receive this national award,” said Ed Hutchinson, president of Hutchinson. “The safety of our workers is a top priority at Hutchinson, and we are proud to be recognized for our dedication to advancing our safety techniques and policies.”

ABC’s STEP serves as a safety benchmarking and improvement tool in which participants measure their safety processes and policies on 20 key components through a detailed questionnaire. Participant companies must document their incident rates, which is weighted against the North American Industry Classification System code average and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s work-related injuries and illnesses record.

As a platinum awardee, Hutchinson is certified to be 400 percent safer than the construction industry average, with a total recordable incident rate 25 percent below the NAICS code average, an experience modification rate of 0.8 and no record of injuries or fatalities resulting in an OSHA citation for the last three years.
