Dr. Charles Stivala and Dr. Cassandra Leigh Thomas will both see patients at the LourdesCare at Cherry Hill office.
Two doctors have recently joined Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center’s LourdesCare at Cherry Hill office.
Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Charles Stivala, recently joined the medical staff. Stivala comes to Lourdes from Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton Pa., where he served as chief of cardiothoracics surgery. Prior to that, Stivala was in private practice in Scranton.
Stivala preformed his thoracic surgical residency at State University of New York in Brooklyn, where he was chief resident. He performed his general surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Stivala preforms all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, including arterial coronary artery bypass and valve repair and replacement. He has a dedicated interest in minimally invasive heart surgery.
Board certified in cardiothoracic surgery, Stivala has additional training in transcatheter aortic valve replacement and peripheral endovascular interventions. Stivala research has been published in medical journals such as the Journal of Thoracic Surgery.
Also joining LourdesCare at Cherry Hill is hematologist/oncologist Dr. Cassandra Leigh Thomas. Thomas comes to Lourdes from working in private practice in Delaware. Prior to that, she served as a hospitalist at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Thomas performed a fellowship in hematology/medical oncology as well as her residency in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University.
Thomas earned her medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where she was named the recipient of the Irwin Gelernt, MD Service Award. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
Board-certified in hematology and internal medicine, Thomas has presented her
research at regional conferences. She is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
