Former mayors advocate for Rich renaming

Moorestown’s previous mayors have penned a letter advocating for the Little Woods to be renamed after Barbara Rich.

The following is an open letter sent to the members of the Moorestown Town Council regarding the proposed renaming of Little Woods on the Rancocas in Moorestown. This letter was drafted in response to council choosing to table the motion for further discussion at their last meeting.

Please note this letter has been authorized and signed on to by all living Mayors of Moorestown with the exception of those currently serving on Town Council and as Township Solicitor.

Town Council:

As former Mayors of Moorestown, we are writing to express our support to rename Little Woods on the Rancocas as “Barbara Rich’s Little Woods” after open space trailblazer and former citizen of the year Barbara Rich.

Rich’s tireless advocacy for Moorestown’s natural treasures have been quiet but effective for almost 50 years. Thanks to her, a number of open space parcels have been preserved — including Little Woods, which otherwise may have become a wastewater treatment site.

While Mrs. Rich has never been one to seek the spotlight, her efforts deserve to be honored and acknowledged by the people of this wonderful community.

We formally ask that you join with the many organizations and individuals who support this motion, including Save the Environment of Moorestown and the Open Space Advisory Committee, by voting “yes” on Ordinance 2–2019.

Thank you for your consideration and your service to Moorestown.

All the best,

Hon. Stacey F. Jordan, Mayor (2013, 2018)

Hon. Manuel Delgado, Mayor (2017)

Hon. Phil Garwood, Mayor (2016)

Hon. Chris Chiacchio, Mayor (2014)

Hon. John Button, Mayor (2011–2012)

Hon. Dan Roccato, Mayor (2009–2010)

Hon. Howard Miller, Mayor (1997–2002)

Hon. Francis L. Bodine, Mayor (1981–1987)
