‘The Simpsons’ writer Mike Reiss coming to the Katz JCC on March 10

Reiss will share stories about working on “The Simpsons” during this special event.

The longest-serving writer for “The Simpsons” and all-around funnyman Mike Reiss will deliver the ultimate fan guide to the most popular animated show in American history in his book, “Springfield Confidential: Jokes, Secrets, and Outright Lies From a Lifetime of Writing for the Simpsons” on Sunday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Katz JCC in Cherry Hill. An international sensation, “The Simpsons” is the longest-running animated sitcom of all time. In celebration of “The Simpsons” 30th anniversary this year, there are few better suited to bring an inside look at the making of one of the most famous shows in television history.

Reiss has won four Emmys and a Peabody Award during his 30 years writing for “The Simpsons.” In his fun-filled presentation, illustrated with rare cartoon clips, Reiss will talk about Jewish themes in the show: Jewish writers, actors, and guest stars and Jewish-themed episodes. Reiss will also explain how he somehow wound up writing seven Christmas books, two Christmas specials, and jokes for Pope Francis.

In his freewheeling, irreverent comic style, Reiss will share stories, scandals, and gossip about working with America’s most iconic cartoon family. He explains how episodes are created and provides an inside look at the show’s writers, animators, actors, and celebrity guests. Reiss reminisces about the making of perennially favorite episodes, dishes on what it’s like to be crammed in a room full of funny writers sixty hours a week, and tells what he’s learned after traveling to 71 countries where “The Simpsons” is watched.

Reiss’s appearance is presented by The Heart House and is part of the Bank of America Festival of Arts, Books and Culture of the Katz JCC. Tickets are available for $15 for JCC members and $20 for community guests. To purchase tickets, visit the Katz JCC’s adult department, go online at www.katzjcc.org/abcfest, or call (856) 424–4444 ext. 1226 or ext. 1119.
