Gloucester County offers free monthly eye screenings

The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced that free eye screenings are available to all residents: the services are offered once a month at the Gloucester County Health Department (204 East Holly Avenue, Sewell).

“There are many residents that do not have the funds or insurance to cover an eye exam,” Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said in a press release. “With the Free Eye Screening program, all you need to do to become eligible is make an appointment.”

Added Freeholder Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Gloucester County Department of Health: “We are pleased to partner with the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired to offer this free service to the residents of Gloucester County.”

Screenings are free of charge. Children from the age of 4 to 17 are welcome but require the signature of a parent or guardian.

Appointments are required for the screenings.  To schedule an appointment call (856) 384-6842.  Appointments occur between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Glaucoma tests are walk-in, no appointment necessary.
