Local doctor brings holiday cheer

Fonseca donated a new stove and $100 gift cards to fourteen youth residents of the program.

For the past 17 years, Dr. Sara Fonseca and her family have been bringing holiday cheer to the Crossroads Programs in South Jersey. Fonseca donated a new stove and $100 gift cards to fourteen youth residents of the program. Fonseca is an endodontist and owner of Endo Excellence in Moorestown. She first became aware of the Crossroads Program in Cinnaminson when she was volunteering and performing root canal therapy for a resident of the program, almost two decades ago. Thus, a friendship was born.

The Crossroads Program is a residential treatment home that provides young adults with an opportunity to practice the skills needed for independent living. Crossroads provides life skills training with medium level supervision to offer a balance of independence and supportive care Their focus is on school and work achievements. In this home, residents may safely learn, grow, make mistakes and learn more knowing that they have a supportive and caring staff there to help guide their decision making, before leaving the system.

This year, Fonseca visited a Crossroads home in Cinnaminson and Willingboro. The CAMS house in Cinnaminson reside four young mothers in need of support. In the Willingboro home reside ten youth ranging from 16 to 21. Fonseca enjoyed interacting with the young adults as they are eloquent and engaging.

“They are all hard working and determined kids,” Fonseca said.

Some are attending college while living in the home, as well. All residents received a gift card in $100, and the CAMS House received a new stove top oven, because the house is remodeling their kitchen.

Fonseca continues to give each year for Christmas because the very first year she started this giving tradition, one of the girls smiled with tears in her eyes and genuine gratitude and said “This is the best Christmas I’ve ever had in my entire life.” Since then, Dr. Fonseca has strived to make sure these kids have something to look forward to on Christmas.
