Washington Township students organize presents for annual ‘Power of Giving’ holiday program

Press release from Washington Township Public Schools

Special to The Sun: The “wrapfest” under way at Bunker Hill Middle School.

The Washington Township Public School District recently took part in its annual ‘Power of Giving’ fundraiser, led by the middle school Future Acts clubs and the Washington Township High School Students in Action club.

‘Giving Trees’ were set up at each of the District’s schools, and staff and community members were asked to pick a child or family’s name from the tree to sponsor during the holiday season. These families, whose children attend the Washington Township Schools, are unable to provide gifts this Christmas. The sponsors brought in gifts throughout the month to help make the holidays brighter for less fortunate families.

On Monday, Dec. 17, more than 60 middle school students and 20 WTHS volunteers gathered in the Bunker Hill Middle School multi-purpose room for a “Wrapfest,” separating and organizing the gifts (they will be wrapped at their home schools) and preparing the donations for delivery. They also made crafts including personalized gift tags and tree ornaments, and they packaged up “reindeer food.” More than 250 children were sponsored.
