When recycling gift boxes, wrapping paper and everyday recyclables, remember to leave out items that contaminate the recycling stream.
Burlington County is reminded residents of some simple “Do’s and Don’ts” for recycling this holiday season.
In the next week, officials say many residents will be wrapping up with unwrapping all their holiday gifts.
With that in mind, county officials are reminding residents that the following holiday-themed items are not safe for recycling: Styrofoam, plastic bags, plastic film packaging (such as air pillows), bows and ribbons, aluminum food trays and pie tins, bubble wrap, foil-coated gift wrap and single use plastic, paper or foam plates, cups and cutlery.
In turn, the following holiday-themed items are safe for recycling: paper gift wrap, paper gift bags, holiday cards (no photo, foil-coated or plastic-coated cards), gift boxes, tissue paper and flatted cardboard (no foil-coated cardboard).
Also, when recycling paper gift wrap and tissue paper, place items loose in the curbside recycling containers. Do not use plastic bags.
