Obituary: Caryl Adele MacDiarmid Haynes

Illinois native, Haddonfield resident and former RCA employee died at 94

Caryl Adele MacDiarmid Haynes of Lutheran Crossings in Moorestown, formerly of Cherry Hill, Cranbury, and Haddonfield, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Oct. 22, surrounded by her loving family and exceptional hospice caregivers.

Caryl was the daughter of the late Edmund Wallace and Laura Cruse MacDiarmid, and beloved wife (67 years) of the late Harold (Hank) Everett Haynes. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Haynes Lehman (Robert), Patricia Haynes Sislen (Charles), and Wendy Haynes Eastman (Kevin), her grandchildren, Matthew Lehman (Jocelyn), Caryline Lehman Barberich (Chris), Wendy Lehman (Michael Givnish), Everett Sislen, Mark Sislen, Laura Sislen, and Jake Eastman, along with her great-grandchildren, Troy and Violet Lehman and Lucy and Ruby Barberich. She was predeceased by her brother Edmund Wallace (Wally) MacDiarmid, Jr.

Caryl grew up in Peoria, Ill., and graduated from Peoria Central High School, where she was editor of the school newspaper. She attended Bradley University and was then chosen to attend Purdue University as an RCA Engineering Cadette. She met Hank at RCA in Indianapolis in 1944 and they married in the following year, moving to New Jersey shortly thereafter.

Caryl and Hank were active members of First Presbyterian Church in Haddonfield for over 50 years, and Caryl remained active there well into her 90s. While living in Cranbury, they were members of First Presbyterian Church there. She was a member of the Haddon Fortnightly, the Cherry Hill Garden Club, and P.E.O. Chapter W.
