GTPD responds to fatal motor vehicle crash
Last night, a two-vehicle collision resulted in the death of one of the drivers after being taken to an area hospital.
The following is a release from the Gloucester Township Police Department:
On Tuesday, Dec. 4, at approximately 6:18 p.m., Gloucester Township Police responded to the intersection of Erial Road and Douglas Ave. for a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash where both vehicles were reported to be overturned and blocking the roadway.
Responding officers located the driver of one of the vehicles in stable condition, with a minor injury, after he was able to exit under his own power. In the second vehicle, officers and firefighters from Blackwood, Chews Landing and Lambs Terrace Fire Departments located a passenger who was able to be assisted from the vehicle with unknown injuries for treatment. The driver of that vehicle was found to be unconscious and had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters with the assistance of Gloucester Township EMS and Virtua Paramedics. All involved parties were taken to area hospitals for treatment and further evaluation.
As a result of the crash the driver of the second vehicle succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The identification of those involved are being withheld at this time pending notification to family and further investigation.
This motor vehicle crash is being investigated by the Gloucester Township Serious Crash Investigation Team (SCIT) and as a result of the initial investigation the roadway was closed for approximately three and a half hours.
