Kids can be actors, editors, directors — and more — in ‘Digital Media’
Mike Arons is giving students the chance to learn about digital media at Williamstown Middle School.
At Williamstown Middle School, eighth graders can choose to be creative and learn about digital media in “Digital Media,” a class taught by teacher Mike Arons.
Students work in small groups and individually to create short movies to present in class. They write scripts, film scenes, direct other students, act in the scenes, film and edit the projects using Adobe programs. The students utilize sections in the school to use as backdrops in the film. They are not required to stay in a classroom to film, which leads to more creative and active stories.
“I like being the actor. I like remembering lines and acting out scenes,” student Josiah said.
Student Bruce said he enjoys being the producer and editor, and likes “seeing the big picture and make scenes happen.”
For one student who films and edits projects all the time at home, “Digital Media” is exciting. Student Chris said he likes watching YouTube and other short films. He is grateful to have the opportunity to learn how to use editing programs at such a young age.
