Items such as plastic bags, electronics, clothes and food should not be place in single-stream recycling bins.
Monroe Township residents are being asked to help battle against contamination in curbside single stream recycling. When non-recycable items (trash) end up in a recycling container, they have the potential to turn the entire truck load into trash. This increases processing cost, which results in additional service charges to the municipality.
Increased enforcement and inspections will take place to correct this problem. If a resident’s automated recycling container is found to be contaminated, it will not be emptied.
The following cannot be recycled: plastic bags, electronics, clothes, food, Styrofoam and plastic toys.
