Thanksgiving has passed and miraculously we all survived our turkey comas. Now comes the December holidays. However you celebrate, I’m sure it will be a glorious time with family and friends.

On Dec. 1, the same day as Medford’s Dickens Festival, Matthew R. Litt, author of “Christmas 1945: the Greatest Celebration in American History,” will be speaking at the library at 10 a.m.

This was the first Christmas after the end of World War II and the country was ready to celebrate. There are stories to make you smile and stories to make you cry. This non-fiction book celebrates the holiday spirit and America. Litt has appeared on television and radio as well as in print. There will be copies of the book available for purchase and signing.

Calling all crafters! We have two opportunities coming up for you. On Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m., we will be holding a workshop to make a holiday wreath. Because we are a library, this unique wreath will be made of book pages. All supplies will be provided. Your second opportunity is the very next day, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. for holiday wine glass painting. Again, all supplies are provided. Registration is required.

Our gentle yoga for adults will continue on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. and Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. This beginner’s class is perfect for those with very stiff joints of minor injuries. There will be lots of stretching and breathing exercises designed for relaxation. Please bring a yoga mat or large towel.

Also continuing this month is our “paws to read” program designed to increase literacy skills and confidence. If you would like to sign up for a session with Gage, the Rhodesian ridgeback, on Dec. 4, please call the library.

If you would like to sign up for chicken paws to read on Dec. 12, please give us a call.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and stay warm!
