Letter to the editor: Resident says to vote ‘yes’ on bond referendum

Lori Perlow states, ‘The proposed infrastructure and security projects included in the bond must be addressed now.’

Editor’s Note: The following is a letter to the editor submitted by Cherry Hill resident Lori Perlow.

As a former educator and the parent of two school-aged children in Cherry Hill, I consider the public school system to be the core of our community. It’s where our children learn to read, write and make lifelong friendships. This is why I’m voting ‘yes’ on all three bond questions.

Like so many others, my husband and I chose to raise our family here because of the high-quality education we knew our children would receive by attending Cherry Hill public schools. However, while the teaching and learning improves each year, our buildings are simultaneously deteriorating. The proposed infrastructure and security projects included in the bond must be addressed now. As a community, we need to put our personal preferences aside and take action to move these projects forward.

If you don’t have children in the school district or your children have graduated and moved on, I’m sure you’d agree that the school district is also critical to the success of our local economy. Educated students turn into qualified employees who operate successful businesses. This decision is about the future, and the generation who will care for us, so let’s do right by them now by providing the best possible learning environments.

As I often say to my children, my responsibility as their mom is to love them and keep them safe, no matter what. By voting ‘yes’ to all three questions, I can fulfill that personal pledge to my children as well as the other 11,000-plus students in Cherry Hill. I hope our community will do the same.
