Tori Thompson, a Wenonah native, was one of four Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) Education majors that took center stage during the College’s November board meeting to receive accolades and applause for their exceptional performance within a new field placement initiative for Education majors.
RCGC Education majors now have the opportunity to observe the teaching profession first hand when they participate in RCGC’s new field experience course. Students are assigned classrooms in a special education/elementary/middle/high school — depending on the grade level that they plan to teach — in one of the local school districts partnering with the College.
Over a five-week period, for a total of 10 hours, students examine the techniques and styles of experienced teachers in real classrooms. The course was launched on a voluntary participation basis in the Fall 2018 semester, and will soon become a requirement for all students pursuing an Education degree.
Thompson will be placed in the kindergarten-through-second grade Special Education class at Bankbridge Development Center in Deptford Township.
