The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) appointed Rowan College at Burlington County mathematics instructor Jonathan Weisbrod to serve a three-year term on its “Two-Year Colleges Committee.”

According to RCBC officials, the MAA is the leading professional association in collegiate mathematics and a primary source of professional development programs for faculty.

“My committee is charged with ensuring that the development of mathematics programs nationwide considers the two-year college students,” Weisbrod said. “I look forward to the opportunities to learn to better develop my own teaching and course design based off the current research we will be examining and producing. It is also exciting to get a deeper understanding of the direction that the undergraduate program in mathematics is headed into the future.”

Officials say Weisbrod will be a part of a nine-person committee that is responsible for working with mathematics faculty to serve the needs of two-year college students and collaborating with other MAA committees to address issues of teaching and learning mathematics in the first two years of college.

“Rowan College at Burlington County math students often outperform their peers at four-year institutions because of dedicated faculty members like Professor Weisbrod,” RCBC President Michael A. Cioce said. “This recognition is well-deserved and I know that Professor Weisbrod will represent the college well and be a strong voice for community colleges at the national level.”

Weisbrod’s term, which is his first national-level governance position for a professional organization, will run from February 2019 to January 2022.
