Catch up on the biggest stories in Moorestown this week.

Linda Carskadon took “the path less travelled” as one of two percent of women in the military, and MFS alum Austin Harris snagged an award for his filmmaking. Catch up on everything from the past week in the Weekly Roundup.

‘The path less travelled’

During the Vietnam War, Linda Carskadon thought it was unfair that only men were expected to serve the country.

“I thought, ‘Surely there’s things that women can do,’” Carskadon said.

At the time she joined the Air Force, Carskadon was one of only 2 percent of women in the military. Carskadon recently retired as a colonel, but along the way, the Air Force allowed her to save lives, inspired her to start her own business and connected her with her husband, Bruce.

MFS alum snags award

Austin Harris’ first encounter with film equipment was in 10th grade at Moorestown Friends School. The experience got him hooked on filmmaking and set him on a path toward New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Ultimately, his passion brought him back home to Burlington County where he filmed his 16-minute short film “Stevie’s Aliens.” Currently a senior at NYU, Harris has debuted his film at several festivals and most recently, “Stevie’s Aliens” won “Best Cinematography” at The National Film Festival For Talented Youth, the world’s largest youth-oriented film festival.
