The Moorestown Parks and Recreation Department offers many classes over the next couple of months that teach youngsters how to bake, cook and make homemade holiday gifts. All classes will be held on the third floor of the Church Street Recreation Center in the commercial grade Community Kitchen. The instructor, Chef Katie Sklarow is a proponent of scratch made recipes and gifts.

Thanksgiving Treats for grades two to six will take place on Nov. 14 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Students will bake, frost, and decorate festive turkey cupcakes with plenty to take home. Warning: This class will contain peanuts. Unfortunately, we cannot register children with peanut allergies.

Thanksgiving gifts for the table for grades four to six will take place on Nov. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. A total of six gifts will be made including homemade cranberry sauce spiced with orange and fresh thyme as well as fall-scented candles and dried herb bundles.

There will be four sessions of thanksgiving pie making for grades two to six. They will take place on Monday, Nov. 19 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. For grades five to ten, they will take place on Monday, Nov. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m., and for grades three to eight on Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Pie dough and fillings will be made from scratch. Students will go home with a pumpkin pie and an apple-cinnamon pie. How wonderful to have one less chore off the list.

We would like to thank Wegman’s who has generously donated pantry items for all of our culinary programs. They have “stocked the larder,” and we very much appreciate it. For a full list of programs and to register, visit www.moorestownrec.com.
