Mullica Hill residents in Macy’s Parade, college’s symphony

Abigail Harris was named to the 2018 Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra and Nicholas Conti will be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for James Madison University.

Abigail Harris of Mullica Hill named to the 2018 Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra (BJUSO). Harris is a freshman majoring in Communication Disorders.

The mission of the BJUSO, one of three orchestras at BJU, is to inspire artistic excellence in performance as a display of God’s glory and His gifts to man. Auditions are open to all students at the university, regardless of academic major.

The 70-member symphony has a long, rich tradition of presenting masterworks from the orchestral repertoire. Students also have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of chamber works, opera, musical theatre, symphonic pops, and sacred music literature.

Nicholas Conti of Mullica Hill will be representing James Madison University in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 22. He will be traveling with the 2018 Marching Royal Dukes of James Madison University to perform at the 92nd annual parade. He plays the saxophone in the alto section of the band.

The band is one of only three college bands that were invited to perform. Over 100 applicants were sent to the Macy’s Parade’s Committee. This year will be the band’s fourth appearance in the parade. Previously, they performed in the 2001, 2008 and 2013 parades.
