Mayor’s Message: Women’s event, swearing-in, October employee of the month, and WTHS spirit parade

The weekly message from Mayor Joann Gattinelli

Special to The Sun: Mayor Joann Gattinelli, Chief of Police Pat Gurcsik with newly sworn in officer, Tim Jordan and his family.

Women Entrepreneurs and Women Owned Businesses event

On Oct. 24, I was pleased to attend the Women’s Entrepreneurs and Women Owned Businesses event that was hosted by our economic development consultant, Nancy Mozzachio at the municipal building. The purpose of this event was to promote women empowerment and help businesswomen network with other businesswomen. There were three very accomplished guest speakers: Karoline Moxham, Michelle Shirey, and Michelle Nocito. They shared insightful and inspiring information about themselves and their careers. If you or someone you know is interested in attending another women’s event or being a guest speaker, you can contact Nancy Mozzachio at nmozzachio@twp.washington.nj.us or at (856) 589–0520 ext. 261.

Swearing-in

I was honored to swear-in Officer Timothy Jordan at the Washington Township council meeting on Oct. 24. Jordan is a three-year veteran of the Camden Metro Police Force and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Washington Township Police Department. While at Camden Metro he was a field training officer and mentor to many other officers on the force. We are pleased to welcome him to Washington Township. I have confidence that Jordan will do well here and I wish him all the best.

October employee of the month

I am pleased to announce that the October Employee of the Month is Adele Riff. Adele has had an extensive career with Washington Township; she has been working for the Township for forty years. She works directly with our director of public works as one of the public works supervisors. Adele has a wide variety of knowledge and is always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone who needs it. She has a friendly personality and is very approachable to all. I thank Adele for all her hard work and dedication over all these years. She is truly an asset to the Washington Township community.

WTHS spirit parade

On Oct. 26, I was honored to be part of the Washington Township High School spirit parade along with Council President Joe Perry, the Washington Township School Board and Anne Moore. We had a great time and it was nice to see athe Homecoming Court dressed up. The parade was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed watching the festivities along with the football game. I would like to thank Principal Strout for inviting us to attend.
