Brain donation gives WTHS AP psychology students an appreciation of what they’re studying

Press release from Washington Township Public Schools

Special to The Sun: WTHS senior Alexis Rizzo (left) holds the brain while junior Colin Ly handles the spinal cord.

Washington Township High School students in Mrs. Krista Scardino-Welch’s AP Psychology classes recently had a chance to get up close and personal with the part of the body they study so closely.

Thanks to a donation from Jefferson University in Philadelphia, the classes were able to study and handle a human brain. The classes had access to a full brain, half-brain hemispheres, a spinal cord and other smaller parts.

Having the opportunity to see a human brain helps the students gain a hands-on understanding of what they’ve been studying, Scardino-Welch said.
