The Gloucester County 4-H Fairgrounds is ready to kick off the fall season with its third annual Fall Fest on Sept. 29 (rain date: Sept. 30) starting at 4 p.m. Enjoy and participate in the crowd-favorite Pumpkin Chunkin’ toss, haunted houses, stall decorating, costume contests and a chili cook-off.

The chili cook-off is new this year, featuring first- and second-place prizes from Bringhurst Meats and Palate Pleasers. Cooks can prepare a chili dish in a Crock-Pot with a variety of Scoville units, meats (or meatless), beans and vegetables, and then have judges test their creations to see who made the best-tasting dish.

The festival will also feature a Mini Haunted Trail Course complete with obstacles for riders to navigate their mini horses through.

The popular Pumpkin Chunkin’ contest is back again and participants are asked to pre-register if they wish to beat the 2017 record of 1,231 feet set by team Trebujunk.

Anyone of any age is welcome to participate. They are required to build a catapult to launch a four- to six-pound pumpkin across a field as far as possible, or hit the designated targets.

Other activities featured in the festival include a horse stall decorating contest, an inflatable obstacle course and a costume contest for kids ages 0 to 19 years old.

To support the Gloucester County 4-H’s food drive, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food to enter in a basket giveaway and benefit the Glassboro Good Samaritans. Pumpkin Chunkin’ contest entrants are required to donate a non-perishable food item.

Further details and requirements about all contests can be found by searching for the Gloucester County 4-H Nature Preserve on Facebook. Admission to the festival is $10 per car, and kid activities are all included in the price.
