No cost flu shot program available to Gloucester County residents

Press release from Gloucester County Board of Freeholders

The Gloucester County Department of Health is gearing up and preparing to provide no cost flu shots to county residents beginning Sept. 24. Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Department of Health said residents should check their mailboxes for the flu shot schedule of locations and times in the county’s newsletter.

Damminger said, “One of the easiest and best ways to stay flu free this year is to get your flu shot. It is not too early to start thinking about flu season and the Health Department has scheduled thirty-four flu shot clinics. We anticipate administering up to 11,000 immunizations this year.”

Damminger stated, “There is no cost for our residents and we make it so easy there is no excuse not to get immunized. There is a flu shot clinic scheduled in every town so that residents can easily access this service.”

Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Department of Health said that getting your no-cost flu shot is easy and convenient.

Jefferson said, “Last year’s flu season was very rough throughout our state and we urge residents to get their flu shot early in the season.”

“Every resident who gets immunized against the flu will ultimately cut down the strain on our hospital emergency rooms, employers, schools and other public health agencies during flu season.”

Jefferson continued, “We have clinics scheduled for weekends, during evening hours, special clinics just for daycare and pre-school aged children and their families, and one drive-thru clinic for seniors and those who have a hard time standing in line. We make it easy, you just need to show up with your ID.”

This year’s quadrivalent seasonal flu vaccine contains the following four viruses: A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)-pdm09-like virus; A/Singapore/INFIMH-16–0019/2016 (H3N2)-like virus; B/Colorado/06/2017-like virus (B/Victoria lineage); B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus.
