Letter to the Editor: Andy Kim will make healthcare accessible and affordable for New Jersey

This letter to the editor was submitted to The Sun from Mt. Laurel resident Barbara S. Blonsky:

Because of responsive leadership in the state of New Jersey, Governor Murphy was able to announce a reduction of 9.3 percent in the average premium rates for residents securing health care through the ACA Marketplace in 2019. The state was able to achieve this through preserving the “Individual mandate” and by creating a reinsurance program that protects insurers from very high claims.

The Governor and legislators in our state have responded to the needs of residents. Rather than working to sabotage what is available to those not covered through employer-sponsored plans, they have developed common sense solutions for reducing costs. For the nearly 300,000 people in New Jersey who secure their health care coverage through the ACA, this is welcome news.

However, as I write this letter, a judge in Texas is hearing oral arguments in yet another GOP led attempt to dismantle coverage for pre-existing conditions.

My state may protect me at this time, but my Congressman, Tom MacArthur, has consistently supported the Trump agenda, which includes working to deprive citizens of life saving health care.

MacArthur’s betrayal of constituents does not appear to be coincidental.

The Open Secrets website (which tracks political contributions) reported that the insurance industry was the top donor to his campaign in the 2017–2018 cycle.

In contrast, Andy Kim is a candidate who understands and supports efforts to make healthcare accessible and affordable for the residents of New Jersey’s Third Congressional District.

He is not beholden to either PACs or wealthy donors.

The residents of New Jersey’s Third Congressional District deserve a representative who not only listens, but also recognizes and supports their needs.

I hope everyone will consider this during the midterms in November and cast their vote for Andy Kim.
